1906/1907 Bobbsey Twins artwork by Charles Nuttall
James Keeline's collection and information are vast, and he has been very gracious in sharing both! In his collection, he has this fantastic gouache illustration by Charles Nuttall (1872-1934). All my information here comes from James (more links to James' information can be found here).
Nuttall's illustrations debuted in the original Chatterton-Peck printings of book 2, and the original Grosset & Dunlap printing of 3 (see James' page on Bobbsey Twins formats for more information on this). Grosset & Dunlap also reprinted book 2 with his illustrations, until revising both 2 and 3 with new illustrations by Walter S. Rogers.
Also interesting to note is this information from James: "Nuttall was colorblind so it was a natural that he would work in gouache, a water-based paint that is often shades of gray".
James also has this fantastic article he wrote which goes into further depth on Nuttall and his association with Stratemeyer, specifically in regards to a Dave Porter book, but encompassing much more information (as of 31 DEC 2025, this page is no longer 'active' on James' webpage).
